This position is associated with Fiber Optic Test and Turn-up Teams that travel on a regional basis with
a major, national long-distance carrier. The work is with SONET Fiber Optic Systems up to OC192.
The duties will involve installing fiber optic connectors, splicing and handling of fiber optic cables, and utilizing
a wide range of equipment in the testing, trouble diagnosis and turn-up of fiber optic systems. TransGlobal
Communications will furnish all transportation, tools and test equipment. No installation, only test and
turn-up.
Two years of technical school or equivalent field experience in telecommunications. On
the Job Training will be provided to orient the individual to the client’s standards and operation. However,
the technician must have a good working knowledge of telecommunications systems, preferably in Fiber Optics. The
individual must be willing to travel extensively. Home visits are generally every 4-6 weeks.
